Work Closure, Delay, or Early Release for Hanford Students

This policy applies to training provided at the HAMMER Federal Training Facility.

When a work closure, delay or early release is announced for Hanford personnel the following will apply:

Full Day Closure for all of Hanford Site

All scheduled classes will be canceled. Rosters will be clearly marked CANCELED and there will be no billing for classes scheduled that day.

If the class is a multi-day class, students should report to HAMMER the following day. Arrangements will be made on a case-by-case basis by the course Point of Contact (POC) as to whether the course will be canceled or time will be made up/adjusted.

Full Day Closure for part of the Hanford Site

If closure does not include HAMMER (i.e., areas south of the Wye Barricade are not closed), classes scheduled at HAMMER will be held. Students scheduled for classes need to report to HAMMER for training.

Work Delay for all of Hanford Site

Classes scheduled to begin during the delay period will be canceled. Rosters will be marked CANCELED and there will be no billing for those classes. (Example, an 8-hour Hazardous Waste Refresher is scheduled to start at 6:30 AM on a day when a work delay is announced. The class will be canceled.) Students should report to their regular work locations at the end of the delay.

Classes scheduled to begin after the delay ends will occur as scheduled. These classes will be billed whether or not the student attends the training. (For example, a student is registered for a class at 12 noon and a work delay of 11:30 AM is announced that morning.)

If the class is a multi-day class, students should report to HAMMER after the delay. Arrangements will be made on a case-by-case basis by the course Point of Contact (POC) as to whether the course will be canceled or time will be made up/adjusted.

Exception: Rad Worker and Rad Technician classes will resume at the end of the delay. The delivery of the training material will be adjusted to meet the original completion date and students will be billed as appropriate for completion of the training.

Note: Decisions on cancellation of classes scheduled at the HAMMER facility, but provided by other Hanford contractors, will be made by the providing contractor. For information/decisions on whether the course will be held, contact the appropriate company’s Training Coordinator or Training Manager.

Work Delay for part of Hanford Site

If the delay does not include HAMMER (i.e., areas south of the Wye Barricade are not delayed), classes scheduled at HAMMER will be held. Students scheduled for classes should report to HAMMER for training.

Early Release for all of Hanford Site

If an early release occurs before scheduled class time is over, students are directed to follow the notification directions.

The responsible manager per the Training Activity Sheet will decide whether or not the objectives have been sufficiently covered to allow credit for the course. If necessary, the class will be rescheduled to allow completion. If the objectives are met the roster will be coded Complete – Bill. Students will be billed for the course in the event of an early release. Rosters will be submitted as Incomplete-Bill at the time of the early release, and once the student completes the course they will be coded as Complete-No Bill.

Early Release for part of Hanford Site

If an early release does not include areas south of the Wye Barricade, classes will continue until completed. Students will not be released early.

Rescheduling Classes

Canceled classes will be rescheduled when a work closure, delay or early release prevented training completion as originally planned.

Unique Situations

Situations not covered in this policy will be addresses on a case-by-case basis by HAMMER management.
